Getting started

How it works

  1. Pick a state

Click into a state to see a map of it's districts.

  2. Learn about legislators

Click on a congress member to see their bills, votes and committees.

  3. Ask John

We feed all of this information into the context for John, our interactive assistant, to make sure the responses are accurate.

John Q. Public

John is an interactive assistant that answers questions about what members of Congress have done and what bills mean, using only the records available this site. All information is sourced directly from bills' contents and metadata, at answer time.

  • Searches our database of records before responding
  • Cites a source for every statement of fact, linking it into the response
  • Will respond when an answer can't be found, rather than guessing
  • Returns information, without introducing judgement or bias on subjects

Questions to try

  • Which of their bills became law?
  • How have they voted on farm bills?
  • What does this bill say?
